NHL Rumors: Flames Huberdeau Not Interested in Re-Signing in Calgary

While all the attention was on Matthew Tkachuk when the blockbuster deal went down between the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers, many people forget Jonathan Huberdeau didn't ask to be moved out of the Sunshine State. He also, according to several reports, was not happy landing in Calgary and don't expect to see the skilled forward re-signing at any point during this season.

You have to give Flames general manager Brad Treliving some credit for the haul he received considering everyone knew Tkachuk wanted out, but the kicker here is Huberdeau only has one season left on his contract and basically Treliving just put himself in the same position, just with a different player.

Teams have already started to call Calgary, which we have reported on, and there's a small chance we see another blockbuster move out of the Flames as more days pass for Huberdeau and his agent to voice their displeasure. If a deal doesn't go down this summer, look for the 29-year-old to go through the motions until a move can be facilitated prior to the trade deadline.

Huberdeau finished last season with 115 points in 80 games and was one of the best players in the league. His trade return will be massive and it could give the Flames the pieces they need to kick start a full rebuild or try to re-tool on the fly.
