Former Philadelphia Flyers First-Round Pick Heading Overseas

German Rubtsov is heading to the KHL, as the 2016 first-round pick has inked a one-year deal with Spartak Moskva.

Rubtsov was expected to become a long-term part of the Flyers' top-six, but that just never came to fruition. In total, he appeared in four games with Philadelphia during the 2019-20 season, where he failed to get on the scoresheet. His tenure as a Flyer ended at the deadline when he was sent to the Florida Panthers before the trade deadline as a part of the Claude Giroux trade.

With Rubtsov being only 24 years old, there's hope that he may be able to one day find his way to the NHL level. Yet, he will need to have a big year in the KHL to get consideration from NHL teams later down the road.
