NHL Rumors: 3 Potential Replacements for Carey Price in Montreal

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes shined some light on the Carey Price situation and from all accounts the news was not ideal. Hughes confirmed it's very unlikely we see Price at all during the 2022-23 season and from the sounds of it, retirement is on the table. While the team is expected to run with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault for this season, expect to see them go hard after some of the NHL's elite next summer. Here's three goalies the Canadiens should keep on their radar:

Frederik Andersen, Carolina Hurricanes

The Danish Andersen is very familiar to the Canadiens as he spent several seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. His first season in Carolina was a success, however some injuries caught up to him at the wrong time. Andersen is a pending unrestricted free agent and someone the Canadiens should have on their wish list. He's big game tested, reliable in the regular season and has held the 1-A starter role in the past. Montreal will have the means to sign Andersen should they choose to do so. We'll see how things play out this season in Carolina.

Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins

Another pending unrestricted free agent who has a giant spotlight on him, Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins is someone the Canadiens should circle. He's had some untimely injuries and hasn't been able to get over the hump with the Pens when it matters most to this point.

If it's much of the same story, a change of scenery may benefit Jarry next summer, and the Canadiens may be sitting with open arms come July 2023.

Laurent Brossoit, Vegas Golden Knights

The 29-year-old Brossoit has been a late bloomer and someone who is going to be a major piece for the Vegas Golden Knights this season. Starter Robin Lehner is expected to miss the entire season and as of right now the crease is Brossoit's to lose. He's heading for a contract year and if he can parlay his opportunity with some solid production, it may result into a multi-year contract next summer. The Canadiens will be one of the many teams keeping a close eye, however look for Jarry and Andersen to be much further up the wish list the Canadiens continue their search for Price's replacement.
