NHL Rumors: Free Agent de Haan Has Interest From Canucks

As there is less than a month before training camp, teams are dipping into the bargain bin to sign some of the remaining free agents they think have value. Calvin de Haan is one of the top remaining free agents available among defensemen and can fit into a team's bottom pair nicely.

It was reported out of The Athletic that the Vancouver Canucks are one of the teams that have eyes of de Haan along with a few other teams.

After the top-four defensemen of the Canucks, the remaining options have yet to be decided on. The team has players like Travis Dermott, Brady Keeper, Kyle Burroughs, Jack Rathbone, and Tucker Poolman if he is able to be healthy. de Haan would be a welcomed addition at a cheap price to replace what the team loses defensively when Poolman is out of the lineup.

de Haan has never been a factor offensively, but he focuses all of his energy into defending. He logged 19 minutes a night last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, recording 172 blocked shots and 146 hits. He would be a great partner and mentor for one of the younger defenders expected to have a place on the third pair.
