NHL Rumors: Nazem Kadri Close to Signing New Contract

According to multiple sources, including David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Nazem Kadri and the New York Islanders have held contract talks, and some feel the deal is all but done at this point.

In true Lou Lamoriello fashion, the contract announcement has been quiet, meanwhile the chatter surrounding their agreement has been amplified. The Islanders love keeping things close to their chest and the Kadri news is just the latest installment.

New York currently has $11.1 million in cap space and considering the relationship between Kadri and Lamoriello, as the two agreed to a contract extension while with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the deal and the fit makes sense. It's likely going to be a five-year contract at $6.5 million per season.

Kadri is coming off a career season where he recorded 87 points in 71 games and another 15 points in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He's taken his game to the next level and considering how desperate the Islanders are for some more offense, this fit makes a ton of sense.
