Buffalo Sabres Re-Sign Young Goaltender

The Buffalo Sabres, as currently constructed have a very talented young core, and if the team continues to build around them, this could be a good team for years to come, but one spot they need to sorely improve is the goaltending. While they've currently got Craig Anderson and Eric Comrie as the top-2 goaltenders on the team, they needed depth, and in order to achieve that, the team today announced that they had re-signed young Ukko-Pekka Lukkonnen to a two-year deal, worth $837, 500 AAV.

It's not a huge move, but it gives the team depth if either of their top two names are injured, and it signals that this team still believes they've got a bright future ahead, as Lukkonnen is still only 23-years of age, and has plenty of potential. This is a cheap deal too, so if the Sabres can keep him around as the long-term backup and potential starter, while building the rest of this team, it's certainly a positive deal.

The Sabres aren't quite there yet, but with such a talented team, it's only a matter of time, and this is a deal that signifies that this could be a good team in the future, as Lukkonnen is going to be a great depth piece for years to come.
