Calgary Flames Sign Veteran Forward to PTO

The Calgary Flames have agreed to a professional tryout with free-agent center Cody Eakin.

The defensive-minded center spent the last two seasons as a member of the Buffalo Sabres. At 31, Eakin's a part of several alumni clubs as he's played for the Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights and the Winnipeg Jets.

The Flames will have a totally different look this season and it's certainly spiced up the Pacific Division. Chemistry is going to be the biggest focus throughout training camp and it will be curious to see if head coach Darryl Sutter mixes things up as camp progresses.

After four NHL contracts, Eakin begins his first tryout agreement. Plan A: Make the Flames opening night roster. Plan B, Impress another team. The former third-round pick has appeared in 701 regular season games and another 50 Stanley Cup Playoff games. Win faceoffs and bang-and-crash, the tryout begins.
