Colorado Avalanche Sign Forward

The Colorado Avalanche have made a late-summer signing, as they have inked Evan Rodrigues to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Rodrigues was one of the top free agents still available, so this signing is a pretty notable one. The 29-year-old will provide the Avalanche with another middle-six option as they aim to repeat as Stanley Cup champions in 2022-23.

With the Avalanche losing Nazem Kadri through free agency to the Calgary Flames, it’s clear that they would have benefited from adding another center. Although Rodrigues is unlikely to produce as frequently as Kadri, he will give them much-needed secondary scoring. It also doesn’t hurt that he can play all three forward positions, too.

Rodrigues just had a career year with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he set new career-highs with 19 goals and 43 points. Let’s see what he does for an encore with the Avalanche from here.
