Calgary Flames Sign Defenseman to PTO

The Calgary Flames have signed Michael Stone to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Stone is certainly a familiar face to the franchise, as he has spent the past six seasons as a Flame. Now, he will be aiming to change that to seven by earning himself a contract with the team in 2022-23.

Stone worked well as a depth defenseman for Calgary last season, as he recorded a solid six points in 11 NHL games. He was also quite effective in the postseason for the Flames, as he quietly had five points and a plus-4 rating in nine games. This is pretty impressive when noting that he is an old-fashioned defensive defenseman.

It will be intriguing to see if Stone can land himself a contract for the season from here. Given his decent 2021-22 season and past experience with the Flames, it wouldn't be all that shocking to see Calgary give him a two-way deal if he impresses at camp.
