Montreal Canadiens Re-Sign Goaltender

The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed Cayden Primeau to a three-year, $2.67 million ($890,000 AAV) contract. It is also a one-way deal.

Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is continuing to stay busy, as he just inked Kirby Dach to an extension earlier this week. Now, he has locked up Primeau on this multi-year pact as an encore. What is most interesting about this contract, however, is that it is a one-way deal. As a result, it appears that the Canadiens are ready to roll with Primeau as their full-time backup goaltender at a minimum.

Primeau is viewed as having a lot of potential, but he hasn't been able to cement himself as a full-time NHL goalie. In 12 games this past season with the Canadiens, he had a 1-7-1 record, 4.62 GAA, and .868 SV%. Yes, he struggled mightily, but the new year offers a clean slate. Let's see how the 23-year-old responds after signing this nice contract.
