New Jersey Devils & Defenseman Haven't Had Extension Talks

While speaking with the media about his future with the New Jersey Devils, Damon Severson noted that he and the team have not begun extension talks.

Now, this doesn't mean that Severson's automatically entering his last season as a Devil. New Jersey has the entire season to begin extension talks with him, but the 28-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Furthermore, given the additions they have made on the backend these last two offseasons, they may decide to let Severson go instead of giving him a raise.

Severson is coming off of the best offensive season of his career, as he scored 11 goals and had a career-high 46 points in 80 games. If he can produce like that again this campaign, he will get a lot of money on the open market as a UFA. Let's see if the Devils try to extend him from here, but right now, things are as quiet as a mouse on that front.
