NHL Rumors: Minnesota Wild Defenseman Wants to Stay Put

Matt Dumba is entering the final season of his contract. For the last nine seasons, he has been a key part of the Wild's blue line and if he gets his wish, his time in Minnesota will not end any time soon. While speaking with Michael Russo, the 28-year-old said that he wants to stay with the Wild.

Dumba's name has been in the rumor mill due to the Wild's salary cap penalties from the Ryan Suter/Zach Parise buyouts. GM Bill Guerin also noted that the buyout penalties "make it hard to do certain things" when talking about a potential Dumba extension. Talks on that front haven't begun between both parties, either.

We will need to wait and see if Dumba can get his wish and remain with the Wild past this season. Financially, it may be out of the question for Minnesota, but perhaps Guerin can find a way to pull some strings from here.
