Ottawa Senators Winger Taking Time With Extension

According to Ian Mendes, Ottawa Senators forward Alex DeBrincat is not ready to sign a long-term extension with the team and will take his time on that front. Yet, the star also said that he is open to the idea of signing an extension at a later time.

It makes sense for DeBrincat to not rush a contract extension with the Senators. The 24-year-old was just traded to the team from the Chicago Blackhawks, so it makes sense that he wants to feel out the organization before committing to them long-term. With that, DeBrincat wants to play playoff hockey, and although the Senators made several big moves this offseason, we need to see how it will translate to the ice.

If signed long-term, DeBrincat will be the club's top sniper for several seasons. In 82 games this past season, he scored 41 goals and had 78 points.
