NHL Rumors: Golden Knights Goalie Situation Goes Bad to Worse

The Vegas Golden Knights were dealt some terrible news early on this summer as number one netminder Robin Lehner required hip surgery and will miss the entire season. Management then decided to commit to Laurent Brossoit and Logan Thompson for next season, turns out Plan B may require a Plan C.

According to Golden Knights' head coach Bruce Cassidy, Brossoit is dealing with an injury and his timetable to return to the ice is up in the air at this point:

He’s healing well from his surgery, again a guy that is highly motivated to get out there. Whether he joins us at the end of the year or two or three weeks in, we’ll see him.

Never a good sign when the coach gives you a timeline that includes two weeks to the end of the regular season. It's obvious Brossoit's status is unclear at this point and the Golden Knights will turn to Thompson for some saves.

Thompson is considered a breakout candidate for the Golden Knights as the 25-year-old is entering the first season of his new three-year contract extension in Vegas. The undrafted netminder appeared in 19 games in 2021-22, recording a 2.68 GAA and a .914 Sv.%. Certainly impressive numbers for an inexperienced goaltender in the league. Look for Thompson to see a career-high in appearances this season and if you play fantasy hockey, you may want to keep an eye on the Vegas starter in the later rounds. Could be the steal of the draft.
