Pittsburgh Penguins Defenseman Fined for Roughing

NHL Player Safety has fined Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Jeff Petry $5,000 for roughing Detroit Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren.

When looking at the clip, it isn't too surprising to see that Petry has landed himself a fine. The veteran defenseman threw a punch to the back of the head at Berggren. The Red Wings winger, understandably, did not see the punch coming, so that also likely played a role in this fine.

While speaking with reporters, Petry said that he did not mean to punch Berggren in the back of the head, but rather "punch/push" the top of his shoulder. Even if he claims it was unintentional, that did not stop NHL Player Safety from giving him a fine.
