San Jose Sharks Sign Young Forward To One-Year Deal

Evgeny Svechnikov is a name that was once heralded when he was drafted No. 19 overall by the Detroit Redwings back in the 2015 NHL Draft, and after four years with the team when he registered just 12 points with Detroit, he moved on to a two-way deal with the Winnipeg Jets, where he would score 7 goals and record 19 points in 71 games.

The 25-year old still has time to grow into his potential, and if he can improve upon 2021/22 with the Jets, there's a chance he could become a solid bottom-six winger, and that's exactly what the San Jose Sharks are hoping they've got, as they signed him to a 1-year, $750,000 deal.

Svechnikov has shown flashes of being a great scorer, as he's recorded 101 points in 186 games at the AHL level, but a deal like this is a very low risk, high reward one for the Sharks, who could certainly use the depth in their organization. This is a great deal for the Sharks, as it's just a one year deal that could pay off or they'll be out of the contract in a year, but after showing flashes in 2021 of finally becoming the player Detroit believed he could be, they may unlock his potential and have a very solid NHL player on their hands.
