Carolina Hurricanes Sign Defenseman

The Carolina Hurricanes signed Calvin de Haan to a PTO before training camp began, and it's now become clear that he has impressed them. The 31-year-old has inked a one-year, $850,000 contract with the team.

This officially means that a reunion between the Hurricanes and de Haan is set in stone for the 2022-23 campaign. The Carp native played for the Hurricanes back during the 2018-19 season, where he had a goal and 14 points in 74 games. Now, he will once again be a Hurricane and will likely be utilized on their bottom-pairing or as an extra d-man.

de Haan is hoping for a bounce-back season from here, as his 2021-22 campaign with the Chicago Blackhawks was a rough one. In 69 games for the Original Six club, he had four goals, eight points, and a disastrous minus-21 rating. Let's see if playing for a contender like the Hurricanes can help him regain his form from here.
