NHL Rumors: Sharks Star Winger Emerging as Trade Candidate

As NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported earlier this week, San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier is willing to hear offers for all of their players besides Tomas Hertl. As a result, we could see the Sharks embrace a full-on rebuild, and the biggest trading piece they have is Timo Meier.

Meier is coming off a season that saw him score 35 goals and record 76 points in 77 games. It was a huge year for the 6-foot-1 winger, but he has been off to a somewhat slow start in 2022-23, as he has just four points in 10 games. However, everyone knows that he will heat up soon enough, so he is still a very valuable trading asset. Top-six wingers with size and skill will forever be hot commodities to contenders.

Because the Sharks could get both a first-round pick and a notable prospect for Meier, it wouldn't be surprising to see him dealt given their desire to rebuild. Meier is also in the final year of his contract. Although he is a pending RFA, if he is not willing to sign a long-term extension with San Jose, a trade will be the correct course of action.
