Why Coyotes Haven't Been Able To Trade Chychrun Yet

Jakob Chychrun is the hottest defenceman on the trade market right now, but the Arizona Coyotes still haven't traded him. Why? It's because of his health. Chris Johnston reported that teams are interested in Chychrun, but want to see him healthy before making a deal.

The talented Coyotes' defenceman has had a few injury troubles in his young career thus far, holding him back and making it difficult for him to join a team ready to compete for a Stanley Cup. The only season in his six-year NHL career when he didn't miss time was in 2020-21 where he actually suited up for all 56 games. Not surprisingly, that was the season in which he finished 10th in Norris Trophy voting with 18 goals and 41 points. It's impressive enough for a defenceman to score 18 goals in a season seeing how only three of them did so in a full season in 2021-22. When healthy, Chychrun can return to that same form.

If Chychrun were to return soon and start producing like he can, it would benefit the Coyotes greatly. That 2020-21 season seems so far away now after multiple injuries that haven't helped the defender out and negatively impacted his game. No team wants to trade for an injured defenceman. If healthy and acquired by a contender, Chychrun could be a game-changer with a very good cap hit and offensive capabilities.
