Flames Jonathan Huberdeau Opens Up About Early Struggles in Calgary

Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau is not off to an ideal start to the 2022-23 season. One of the newest Flames expects a ton of out himself and to his standards, he's not even playing close to his capabilities.

Huberdeau caught up with reporters and had this to say about what's going on in Calgary so far this season:

I've still got a lot of work to do. I mean, obviously, it hasn't been easy for me at the beginning of the year. I'm way better than what I am right now. You guys haven't seen anything yet. I'm not happy with myself right now. Last year, we won a lot of games 6-5. Obviously, you're going to get some points as an individual, but I think that's not the point. You want to play well defensively as a system. If you play well defensively, you're going to get your chance offensively. I think he's right (on HC Sutter telling him he needs to speed up his game). I'm thinking a little too much out there, not moving my feet as I used to last year. I think I've gotta start doing that. ... I've just gotta relax and kind of play my game. I know I'm a good player; I've gotta come back to the basics.

The Flames are off to a 5-3-0 start and have seen improvements each game considering there's so many new faces in the lineup. Huberdeau has one goal and four assists in eight games. Expect to see one of the best passers in the game get going here soon.
