Maple Leafs Rumors: Toronto Making Trade Offers

The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to add to their depth on defense and are willing to move a forward to do so. Rumors of late has the team shopping forward Pierre Engvall, along with some mid-level prospects in hopes of landing an experienced NHL proven defenseman.

Engvall has struggled this season and can't seem to find a consistent role in the Maple Leafs' lineup. So far in 17 games the 26-year-old forward has scored twice and notched only three points. Engvall is a pending free agent who makes $2.2 million against the cap.

Toronto has recently been linked to the Nashville Predators, Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild, who all have defensemen who are available via the trade market. Cap constraints won't make any deal easy for the Maple Leafs as they continue to work the phones trying to upgrade their roster.

So far this season the team has shopped Engvall, Wayne Simmonds and Nicolas Aube-Kubel, but hasn't had any luck on striking deals with other teams. Perhaps they'll have to sweeten the pot with a couple of prospects to get other teams to bite.
