NHL Rumors: Canadiens & Canucks Linked to Blockbuster

The Vancouver Canucks are open for business and are expected to move out forward Brock Boeser before the March 3 trade deadline. The team recently gave Boeser's agent permission to speak to other teams regarding a deal, to this point nothing appears close. However, there's been some serious rumblings about Boeser heading east.

Several reports have surfaced connecting the Canucks to the Montreal Canadiens in a potential Boeser for Sean Monahan package, one that doesn't necessarily make a ton of sense to many Canucks fans. Boeser is 25, signed for two more seasons at $6.6 million and meanwhile Monahan is a pending free agent who wouldn't necessarily re-sign in Vancouver at season's end.

Both players have had their fair share of struggles this season but have produced at a reasonable clip considering. Monahan has tallied 17 points in 25 games, meanwhile Boeser has 16 points in 22 games. The Canucks are familiar with the Monahan's game after he spent almost a decade in Calgary with the Flames.

The Canadiens traded for Monahan last summer in what was basically a salary dump for the Flames. The deal included a conditional first-round pick from Calgary and now if they are able to turn Monahan into Boeser, it would be a huge win for Montreal.
