NHL Rumors: Flyers Forward a Buy Out Candidate Next Summer

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, the Philadelphia Flyers missed their shot to totally rebuild and potentially land blue-chip prospect Connor Bedard and Brooks thinks the Flyers will now buy out center Kevin Hayes next offseason.

The Flyers buying out Hayes would cost the team roughly $1.6-$4.7 million over the course of the next six seasons. Hayes is signed through the 2025-26 season, making $7.1 and holds a modified no-trade clause which kicked in this season, which covers him from 12 teams of his choice.

Even though the Flyers are struggling and sit near the bottom of the standings, Hayes has been performing fairly well, recording 28 points in 29 games this season.

Perhaps a 50% retained salary trade instead of a buyout would be the preference for Flyers management so they can at least get something in return for having to pay Hayes to go away.
