NHL Rumors: Flyers' van Riemsdyk Available for Trade

It comes as no surprise that James van Riemsdyk has been made available for trade by the Philadelphia Flyers this season. The team is in no position to compete and they are trying to free up as much cap space for the future. There is also no way the Flyers re-sign van Riemsdyk, so they will try to get as much for him as possible and retain however much money they must.

The 32-year-old veteran is now in his 14th season and he's made it out of the first round just three times. There's a good chance a playoff-bound team will want to add a player like that for their middle-six who is able to score goals and be very effective in front of the net.

van Riemsdyk has only played 12 games this season since he dealt with an injury, but has scored five goals and 11 points. On a team that has a -29 goal differential, he is impressively a +3. His early play is definitely a step up from last season no matter which way you look at it.

The Flyers' hope is that van Riemsdyk can stay healthy and continue to produce at a rate similar to this one so that they may actually get a decent return. The team has no need to re-sign a player like van Riemsdyk when they are going into a full rebuild now. Keep an eye out for a contender who struggles on the power play since JVR specializes in that area.
