NHL Rumors: Sabres Jeff Skinner to be Suspended for Nasty Cross-Check

Buffalo Sabres forward Jeff Skinner is set to have a hearing on Saturday after delivering a vicious cross-check to Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel. The play happened Friday night as the Penguins defeated the Sabres 4-3 in overtime.

The two players got into a scrum with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation and it was an extra piece of lumber from Guentzel on Sabres netminder Craig Anderson that sent Skinner over the deep end.

After some back and forth, Skinner's last cross-check caught Guentzel right in the face and he was assessed a five-minute major and kicked out of the game. Guentzel was bloodied for his efforts.

Sabres coach Don Granato mentioned after the game that Skinner's emotions got the best of him as his cross-check led to a Penguins power-play overtime winner. It's a quick turnaround for the two teams as they matchup again on Saturday night, this time, it's likely Skinner is in the press box serving a one-game suspension.
