Ottawa Senators Send Forward Back Down to AHL

On Sunday (Dec. 18), the Ottawa Senators called up Scott Sabourin because they expected that Austin Watson was set to be suspended. Instead, the latter only received a fine. As a result, Sabourin has now been sent back down to the AHL.

This is a tough break for Sabourin, as he was hoping to get into his first NHL regular-season action of the year. Instead, the 30-year-old is heading back to the AHL without getting into a single game.

Although this is not the best news for Sabourin, a future call-up could be in the cards if the Senators need a bit more grit in their bottom six as the year goes on. In 43 career NHL games, the Orleans native has two goals, eight points, and 49 penalty minutes.
