Ovechkin Enters NHL Record Books Once Again

It's another line in the NHL record books for Alex Ovechkin. With a shot with 11 minutes to play in the 3rd period against the Ottawa Senators Thursday night, the Washington Capitals' legend recorded his 6,210th shot on goal—a new all-time NHL record.

With that shot, he passed Hall of Famer Ray Bourque for the top of the shots chart. It took the Boston Bruins legend 1,612 games to record his 6,209 shots; Ovechkin passes him in his 1,309th game.

Jaromir Jagr, Marcel Dionne and Phil Esposito round out the top five.

The 37-year-old Ovechkin has led the NHL in shots on goal 11 times in his illustrious 18-year career.

And this isn't his only notch in the league record books.

Ovechkin also holds the all-time records for the most power play goals, most goals scored in away games, most overtime goals in the regular season, and most goals with the same team in NHL history. He is also only the third NHL player in history with 800 goals, along with Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky.

He's still one goal behind Howe for 2nd on the all-time list at 801.
