3 Detroit Red Wings 2023 Trade Candidates

The Detroit Red Wings will be an interesting team to watch as we creep closer to the trade deadline because they could do a little bit of buying, selling and re-tooling on the fly. Star forward Dylan Larkin is a pending unrestricted free agent and there's been some rumblings extension talks are going nowhere. It certainly provides an added wrinkle to their group as general manager Steve Yzerman will be active in the trade market this season. Let's examine a few trade targets to head to Motown:

Bo Horvat

From a number of different industry sources, Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat is at the top of the Red Wings' wish list. He's going to be moved by the Canucks and it's only a matter of time before a deal is struck. The Canucks want a young center and a right-handed defenseman, two things the Red Wings could easily offer up. Adding Horvat could then result in the team moving Larkin before the March 3 deadline.

Timo Meier

Some teams are scared of Meier's $10 million qualifying offer for 2023-24, meanwhile the Red Wings have over $40 million in cap space and could easily make it work. The Wings also have the type of prospects and NHL ready talent the Sharks are looking for and could entice San Jose to move Meier to Motown. He's a restricted free agent and this will entice Yzerman to pounce as given up a big trade package is much easier to swallow if you're acquiring someone with team control.

Brock Boeser

While Horvat may be priority #1, his Canucks teammate is also on the Red Wings wish list. Boeser is a pure goal scorer who needs a change of scenery. He's in the prime of his career and would fit in nicely in Detroit. Yzerman has plenty of assets to move and has a great relationship with Canucks president Jim Rutherford. The Wings and Canucks are two teams who have been linked for a number of reasons and could provide us all with a deadline blockbuster this season.
