Boston Bruins Sign Forward to Extension

The Boston Bruins have signed Pavel Zacha to a four-year, $19 million contract extension. Starting next season, he will carry a $4.75 million cap hit.

Zacha was acquired by the Bruins from the New Jersey Devils this offseason, and he has since been a strong addition to their group. In 42 games on the year, he has five goals to go along with 20 assists and a plus-10 rating. Overall, he has worked well in every role Boston has put him in, so it makes sense that they have decided to keep him around past this season.

With the careers of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci likely nearing their completion, the Bruins are going to need to focus on building a long-term plan for the center position. Although Zacha has primarily played on the wing this season, he is a natural center, so they could have their future 2C locked up for four more years with this move.
