Detroit Red Wings Shockingly Place Forward On Waivers

The Detroit Red Wings have shockingly placed Jakub Vrana on waivers. This move clears up a roster spot for Robby Fabbri.

Vrana has spent the majority of this season in the Player Assistance Program but recently got back into action with the Grand Rapids Griffins. In his three AHL contests, he had zero points to go along with a minus-5 rating.

Since being dealt to the Red Wings in 2020-21, Vrana has been excellent when healthy. However, he has been sidelined often, as he has only appeared in 39 games over that span, where he has 22 goals and 10 helpers.

Vrana carries a $5.25 million cap hit until the end of the 2023-24 season. While at his best, he can produce like a top-six forward, so there certainly could be some clubs with cap space willing to take a chance on him. We will have to wait and see what happens on that front from here.
