NHL Rumors: Blackhawks' Star Could Re-Sign Instead Of Being Traded

The Chicago Blackhawks may have to hold off on their plan to trade Patrick Kane this season as he needs some clean up on the injury front. Elliotte Friedman reported that this could cause Kane to sign a one-year extension with the team and postpone a potential trade until next season.

Kane was just placed on the injured reserve and has seven goals and 27 points in 37 games this season. He hasn't been the best player for the Blackhawks as he normally is, but he also isn't used to being on a rebuilding team. He has control over if he finishes the season with Chicago as he has a full no-move clause.

Kane may decide to stay for the rest of the season with Jonathan Toews, but the Blackhawks would like to get some sort of return from trading Kane mid-season if they can. Kane's presence this season hasn't really helped the Blackhawks win very many games and he will be a highly valued trade piece next season if he does in fact re-sign for one season.

His next contract will likely include another no-move clause of sorts so that he has control over which team he wants to be traded to.
