NHL Rumors: Blues Captain 'In Play' as 2023 Trade Candidate

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, St Louis Blues captain Ryan O'Reilly is 'in play' before the 2023 trade deadline on March 3. O'Reilly is nursing a broken foot at the moment, however this isn't going to stop teams from being interested in acquiring the former Conn Smythe trophy winner.

Dreger confirmed the reports via TSN Insider Trading earlier this week and mentioned it will take a package of prospects and picks to finalize a deal. ROR is going to be 32 years old in the coming days and while this season has been a down year full of adversity, the Blues captain could help a number of teams bound for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

O'Reilly has a $7.5 million cap hit for the remainder of this season and it's likely the Blues or another third-party team will need to take on some of his cap hit to facilitate a deal. The Colorado Avalanche, Seattle Kraken and Toronto Maple Leafs remain heavy favorites at this point.

The kicker here is the Blues. If they are able to creep around the playoffs, don't expect to see them move out many players a they'll have postseason aspirations of their own.
