NHL Rumors: Oilers Trade on the Horizon

The Edmonton Oilers are a team to watch these next few days as rumors have surfaced from Western Canada stating the Oilers are closing in on a trade. Oilers general manager Ken Holland has been discussing a few different deals this past week and it appears something could be finalized in the coming hours.

Disgruntled forward Jesse Puljujarvi continues to be a prime trade candidate out of Edmonton and is likely the player moved by Holland and company. The Oilers are trying to upgrade their blue line and moving Puljujarvi may be the piece that is needed to do so.

Recently, hockey insider Chris Johnston discussed the Oilers trade needs and had this to say:

When you have a team built around Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in their primes, you’re always in buy mode. The main item on the Oilers shopping list at this deadline is a left-shot defenceman. In order to free up some cap space, look for GM Ken Holland to potentially find a new home for struggling forward Jesse Puljujarvi. He is currently ranked at No. 14 on the Trade Deadline Big Board.

What we do know is the Oilers have discussed trades with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens and Anaheim Ducks of late, and all three should be seen as potential trade partners.

Look for the Oilers to land one of Vladislav Gavrikov, Joel Edmundson or John Klingberg as their pursuit for another defenseman has been ramped up in a major way. Sounds like a deal is on the horizon Oilers fans!
