NHL Rumors: Capitals & Sharks Emerging as Trade Candidates

After a slow start to the 2022-23 season, The Washington Capitals have heated it up and once again look like potential contenders. As a result of this, they are expected to be major buyers at the deadline, and this is especially so when remembering that they are dealing with injuries with their forwards. In a recent piece for Daily Faceoff, NHL insider Frank Seravalli suggested that Washington could make a push for San Jose Sharks star Timo Meier because of this very reason.

Meier’s name has come up in the rumor mill this season, as the Sharks seem to be preparing for a long overdue rebuilding stage. With Meier being their most valuable trade asset and not too far away from unrestricted free agency, it would make sense for them to move the power forward now. Furthermore, with the Capitals trying to win one last Stanley Cup during the Alexander Ovechkin era, it also would make sense for them to make a push for the winger.

The Eastern Conference is immensely deep, so the Capitals would be wise to try to make one legitimate splash before the deadline passes. It will be intriguing to see if Meier ends up being a player they end up bringing in, but if they do, they could be in far better shape when it comes to the postseason.
