NHL Rumors: Devils Making Significant Trade Offers

The New Jersey Devils are ready to pounce this season and will be going all in to try and win a Stanley Cup. General manager Tom Fitzgerald has been a busy man these past 12 months getting his team ready for contending and now it's time to try and take them over the top.

Fitzgerald admitted to the media earlier this week, he's been busy seeing what's out there and what the market price looks like for adding another top-six forward. Fitzgerald had this to say about his intentions ahead of the March 3 trade deadline:

If it's possible, I'd like to add a top-six winger. And I'd like to be able to control the player (past this season) and grow. I'd be willing to give up assets to do that, and I've got to know, 'What does that look like?' I love where we're at, I really do. Now the fun times start, where you're trying to put the right pieces in the locker room. If that means going out and trading assets for a player who can grow and be part of this, hell yeah, sign me up.

The Devils have $2 million in deadline cap space to use and they have a projected $36 million in cap space next summer to work with. Fitzgerald is right, the time is now for New Jersey and they should be making headlines with a blockbuster move ahead of the deadline.

One player who keeps getting linked to the Devils is Timo Meier of the San Jose Sharks. He's close friends with Devils captain Nico Hischier, he's under team control as a pending restricted free agent and he's in the prime of his career. Meier is a machine, can score in bunches and loves to play a physical game. This season he's scored 48 points in 50 games and all signs are pointing to a trade out of San Jose. One thing's for sure, Fitzgerald has been in touch and could pull the trigger on a deal before March 3.
