Canucks Rumors: Vancouver Could Make Very Surprising Trade

The Vancouver Canucks are expected to make several trades ahead of the March 3 trade deadline, however not many had goaltender Thatcher Demko getting moved on their bingo cards.

Demko is hurt and likely three weeks away from action, however that hasn't slowed down the rampant trade rumors of late. Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal had this to say this week on the possibility of Demko being moved:

If you’re moving him, better be a good haul

Indeed. Demko is 27 years old, signed through the 2025-26 season at $5 million per, and he does not hold any trade protection. If the Canucks are looking to create cap space, Demko is certainly a candidate to be moved as there will be a ton of interested teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Before getting hurt, Demko had appeared in 15 games this season, recording a 3.93 goals against average and a .883 save %. The last two seasons in over 90 games of action, Demko had recorded a .915 save % which hovers around league average. Considering how bad the Canucks can be, that's rather impressive.

We'll find out before March 3 if the Canucks surprise us all and move out their number one goaltender.
