NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers Linked to Canucks Defenseman

The Edmonton Oilers are looking to be legitimate contenders, but it is clear that their current roster has issues that they need to address. Specifically, their defensive group leaves more to be desired, and they are expected to bring in at least one before the deadline passes because of it. According to Marc Spector, an NHL scout noted that the Oilers should be looking at Luke Schenn because of this.

Schenn has been excellent for the Vancouver Canucks this season, so he naturally is getting attention on the trade market. After all, he is a pending UFA who carries a cheap cap hit, so he is the perfect kind of defenseman for playoff teams to add. Furthermore, his immensely physical style of play and reliable defensive play makes him an ideal target for many.

It will be intriguing to see if the Oilers do in fact end up making a push for Schenn from here. On paper, there appears to be a strong fit here, but time will tell if Schenn ends up being an Oiler.
