NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens & Edmonton Oilers Talking Trade

After a solid start to the 2022-23 season, the Montréal Canadiens have fallen back down to earth and now are near the bottom of the NHL standings. This was to be expected from the rebuilding squad, and now they are officially set to be sellers at the trade deadline because of it. Joel Edmundson is one primary trade target who we will likely see dealt before the deadline passes, and the Edmonton Oilers are one of the teams who are linked to the veteran defenseman, according to the fourth period.

Edmondson is exactly the kind of defenseman that the Oilers need right now. Their left side is not particularly strong, and Edmundson would be a great way to help fix this. Furthermore, his defense-first style of play and strong physicality makes him a very valuable defensive defenseman in this league. That is exactly the kind of player that Edmonton needs if they want to go on a legitimate playoff run this spring.

It will be intriguing to see if this interest ends up leading to a trade between the Oilers and Canadians from here. However, there’s no question that Edmonton is going to have plenty of competition to land his services.
