NHL Rumors: New York Rangers Linked to Veteran Defenseman

The Florida Panthers are having a rough season, and they currently do not hold a playoff spot because of it. If they continue to struggle as the year carries on, there’s a legitimate chance that they will be sellers at the trade deadline. Marc Staal is already starting to get some attention on the market because of this, and the New York Rangers are one of the clubs that reportedly have him on their radar.

Staal is of course a familiar face to the Rangers, as he spent the majority of his long career with them. As a result, this familiarity has the Rangers open to the prospect of bringing him back to New York as they gear up for their postseason run. When noting that the Rangers could use more depth on the left side of their defensive group, it does make sense that they have them on their radar.

Staal would provide the Rangers with another potential bottom-pairing defenseman while having a very cheap cap hit. Overall, it would not be bad for them to bring back a familiar face and veteran like Staal, but we will have to wait and see if they do just that from here.
