NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers & Sharks Linked to Possible Trade

The Philadelphia Flyers are expected to be one of the top sellers at this year’s trade deadline, as they are currently near the bottom of the NHL standings. Although we may end up seeing players like Kevin Hayes, Ivan Provorov, and Justin Braun moved at the deadline, that does not mean that Philadelphia won’t be open to adding to their roster. With the Flyers being a struggling team, they could express interest in disgruntled San Jose Sharks prospect Ryan Merkley.

Merkley recently requested a trade from the Sharks, as he has become fed up with his lack of playing time at the NHL level. Overall, it’s easy to understand why the 2018 first-round pick has become frustrated with the Sharks, and a change of scenery may be what’s best for his career to move forward. When looking at how weak the Flyers’ roster is, it’s fair to argue that he could compete for a spot in their regular defensive group.

The Flyers are in a position to take a chance on a former top prospect like Merkley, so it will be interesting to see if they end up acquiring it before the deadline. On paper, a fit appears to be there, so we will have to wait and see if the Sharks and Flyers end up striking a deal from here.
