NHL Rumors: Tampa Bay Lightning Linked to Blues Defenseman

According to the Fourth Period, the Tampa Bay Lightning reportedly linked to St. Louis Blues defenseman Niko Mikkola.

We recently reported that Mikkola could be a trade target for the Lightning, as they are looking to beef up their defensive depth before the deadline passes. He certainly would provide them with just that, as he is a quality bottom-pairing defenseman while playing at his best. However, he also could serve as a very useful extra defenseman for when the playoffs roll around.

With the Blues continuing the plummet in the standings, it is far more likely that they will be sellers rather than buyers. As a result, Mikkola will likely be moved, so we will need to wait and see if Tampa Bay ends up being the club that acquires him from here.
