NHL Rumors: Washington Capitals Shopping Winger

The 2022-23 season has been a rough one for Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha. Although he has nine goals and 23 points in 42 games, he has lost the trust of Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette, as his recent healthy scratch shows. As a result of all of this, there has been buzz that the
Capitals are willing to move Manta to improve their roster elsewhere.

With Mantha carrying a $5.7 million cap hit until the end of the 2023-24 season, there's no question that the Capitals expect more from him. As a result, it may make sense for them to give him a fresh start, as his role with the Capitals have dropped off significantly this campaign.

Mantha could certainly get some interest on the trade market, as he has the ability to be an effective second-line forward when playing at his best. The Capitals would likely need to retain some of his salary to help a move come to fruition, but it certainly seems likely that they would if it leads them to land an upgrade with their forward group.
