Boston Bruins Rumors: Craig Smith Linked to Surprising Team

The Boston Bruins are aiming to clear up cap space, as it will allow them the opportunity to make moves elsewhere to improve their roster. Craig Smith has become their most notable trade candidate because of this. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston have reportedly had talks about the veteran winger.

If the Hurricanes acquire Smith, they will likely land another asset with him due to Smith's expensive cap hit and struggles this season. With that, the 33-year-old would provide the Hurricanes with a solid depth piece before the postseason begins. Although he has just four goals and 10 points in 42 games this season, he also recorded a 36-point campaign in 74 games just last season. Thus, perhaps a change of scenery could allow him to get things back on track.

Overall, this move only makes sense for the Hurricanes if they land a draft pick or prospect with him. Yet, at the same time, it could be a gamble worth taking, as he is an experienced winger who can provide secondary scoring while performing at his best. Alas, we will need to wait and see if Smith ends up becoming a Hurricane before the deadline passes from here.
