Carolina Hurricanes Rumors: Trade Offer Made to San Jose Sharks

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Carolina Hurricanes have serious trade interest in San Jose Sharks winger Timo Meier and have likely made a trade offer at this point.

The Hurricanes lost Max Pacioretty to another Achilles injury earlier this season and with the LTIR money, they currently have over $10 million in deadline cap space to work with. There's no doubt about it, they are swinging for the fences before the March 3 trade deadline.

Meier is the best player available this season and is a pending restricted free agent who will be looking for an expensive long-term deal. The Hurricanes have over $29 million to work with in cap space entering next season so there's certainly room to keep Meier in the cards.

The Sharks forward has recorded 52 points in 55 games this season and is hitting everything in site. He's the proto-typical power forward and can give the Hurricanes a huge boost to their top six. Meier is likely going to cost the 'Canes at least one first-round pick and one top prospect as the Sharks are holding a hard bargain with so much interest.
