Colorado Avalanche Rumors: Coyotes Forward Becoming Target

The Arizona Coyotes have a prime trade candidate in Nick Schmaltz, and all eyes should be on him as we get closer to the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline because of it. One team who is starting to emerge as a potential landing spot for Schmaltz is the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avalanche are gearing up to be buyers, and they are expected to be quite active as they aim to repeat as Stanley Cup champions. With their forward group dealing with injuries, it would make sense for them to go after Schmaltz. This is especially true when noting that he can play both right wing and center. When it comes to the latter, he could work well as Colorado's 2C. This is an area that they have needed to improve since Nazem Kadri left last offseason. However, he also would be a good addition to their top six on the wing.

In 42 games this season, Schmaltz has 16 goals to go along with 37 points. Overall, it has quietly been another very good season from the Wisconsin native, so let's see if the Avalanche end up landing him before the deadline passes from here.
