NHL Rumors: Insider Links Oilers Forward to Lightning

The Edmonton Oilers are expected to trade Jesse Puljujarvi before the 2023 Trade Deadline passes. The young forward has struggled the season, and he would benefit from a change of scenery at this point in time. In a recent piece for Daily Faceoff, NHL insider Frank Seravalli listed the Tampa Bay Lightning as a potential landing spot for the 2016 first-round pick.

The Lightning have become famous for adding to their bottom six at the deadline, and each year it seems to benefit them significantly. With Tampa Bay in need of some forward depth, it would make sense for them to take a chance on a young player like Puljujarvi. This is especially true if he can find the scoring touch that he had just last season.

Perhaps playing on a very deep team like Tampa Bay could result in Puljujarvi taking that next step in his development. We will need to wait and see if the Oilers and Lightning end up striking a deal centering around Puljujarvi before the deadline passes. If they do, Edmonton would need to retain salary.
