NHL Rumors: Philadelphia Flyers Forward Linked to Minnesota Wild

James van Riemsdyk is a player to watch at the 2023 Trade Deadline, as he is a pending UFA on a struggling Philadelphia Flyers club. As a result, he is expected to be moved before March 3 as a rental. According to The Fourth Period, the Minnesota Wild are one of the teams expressing interest in him because of this.

The Wild are in a position to add to their roster before the deadline passes. In fact, it should be encouraged, as the Western Conference has several good teams that Minnesota is aiming to pass. Thus, improving their top six should be one of their main objectives, so it makes sense that they are considering the prospect of acquiring van Riemsdyk.

van Riemsdyk carries a $7 million cap hit, so the Flyers would need to retain salary in any move centering around the veteran. Yet, with JVR's contract set to expire, it is quite likely that the Flyers would be willing to do just this.

Alas, it will be interesting to see if the Wild end up being the team that wins the JVR sweepstakes from here.
