St. Louis Blues Claim Forward Off Waivers from Penguins

The St. Louis Blues have made a bit of a surprising move, as they have claimed Kasperi Kapanen off of waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

When it was announced that Kapanen was placed on waivers, it seemed likely that he would clear. After all, he has struggled this season, and he carries a $3.2 million cap hit until the end of next season. Yet, instead, he will now have the opportunity of a fresh start as a Blue.

This is actually wonderful news for the Penguins, as they now have cleared up cap space for the deadline. This, in turn, could help their chances of making a notable move by March 3, as Kapanen's contract is off the books entirely.

We will need to wait and see if Kapanen can turn things around in St. Louis from here. In 43 games played this season with Pittsburgh, the 2014 first-round pick has seven goals, 13 assists, and a minus-8 rating.
