Toronto Maple Leafs Rumors: 2 Defensemen On Team's Radar

The Toronto Maple Leafs already made a major splash this month when they acquired Ryan O'Reilly and Noel Acciari from the St. Louis Blues. Yet, it appears that they are not done just yet, as they are also reportedly looking to beef up their defensive depth. As a result of this, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman noted that Radko Gudas and Scott Mayfield could be two targets for them.

Gudas is currently playing on a Panthers team currently fighting for a playoff spot. Although they currently have the final wild card spot, teams right behind them like the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, and Buffalo Sabres have all played multiple fewer games than them. Thus, the pending UFA Gudas could be made available if Florida falls down in the standings. In 50 games this season, he has two goals, 10 points, and 199 hits.

Mayfield, on the other hand, is playing for an Islanders team that is very much in the same boat as the Panthers. They have played several more games than the three clubs listed above but only are up on them by a few points. Thus, if the Islanders skid, he could be an option for the Leafs. In 60 games this season, the 6-foot-5 d-man has five goals, 15 points, and an even rating.
