Detroit Red Wings Sign Prospect

The Detroit Red Wings have signed prospect Antti Tuomisto to a two-year, entry-level contract.

Tuomisto was selected in the second round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Wings, and he has finally earned his ELC. The 22-year-old right-shot defenseman is currently playing in his first professional season with TPS of the Finnish Liiga, where he had five goals to go along with 15 assists in 60 games played. Overall, the 6-foot-5 d-man is having a solid start to his career, so it makes sense that he has landed this ELC from Detroit now. Now it is just a matter of translating his strong play to North America.

Tuomisto may need a few years in the AHL before making the jump as an NHL player, but he does have the tools to become an effective bottom-pairing defenseman. We will need to wait and see how he responds to signing this ELC through his play from here.
